A New Moon Rises

So I just read this article about the US planning to build a moon base sometime after 2020.

It's got several interesting tidbits.

Second, that the moon base will be used for a jumping off point for missions to Mars. Sweet.

Third, that the space shuttle program is to be phased out by 2010 (three years away) and that the space shuttles are going to be replaced by a new spacecraft to be built by Lockheed Martin.

So, now that this is in the works, expect other countries to start throwing their hats into the ring. There will not be one sole station on the moon - think of it like Antarctica. Every country has a claim. However, it's going to be harder for countries without space programs to get up there and build...
