Vimeo...Just...Go There...

I'm a long-time (ok, short-time) user of YouTube. I posted videos there for a while, that nobody watched, talked about things nobody cared about. All that kind of stuff. I hated YouTube because all of the people on it were prissy a$$holes, all of the good content got drowned out by sellouts of television shows and viral videos and Daily Show clips and stupid stuff like that. It's still useful for what it is, and what it is is a Junkyard for every video anyone ever makes.

Long story short - I hate YouTube. I've moved on to smaller but better things.

What things? Vimeo. Watch this clip, from Jakob Lodwick, creator of Vimeo.

Now, the first thing you'll notice is the video quality is great. A lot better than YouTube's. Also, there's no unnecessary "video player" module wrapping around. It's just the video.

I love Vimeo because YouTube sucks and because Vimeo is run by a lot of talented programmers and idea men. I even talked to some people on the staff, and they said a new version of the site is going to be launching very soon, with plenty of new features.

Here's a video I made for Vimeo. It's called Chalk...

Go there, get an account, start uploading videos - and get everyone you know to do the same thing. Because video networks with the people you love but can't be around a lot are really really cool.

Jahshaka!!!!

So, I'm about to start editing my first sketch for my first sketch comedy group, Happy Street Crisis Team (MySpace page pending...) and I'm like, "You know what? I'm tired of Windows Movie Maker." So I go online and type in "free alternative to movie maker" and up comes this website.

Jahshaka.

From the Features panel:

"Imagine if you could...

Edit with flexibility and speed
Create Effects in real time
Animate with unlimited features
Paint and design on moving video
Create music with all the tools the pros use
Work in any format at any resolution

...all while sharing files, projects and clips with users on your network or around the world

All using a single, open source application where the code is yours… that runs on practically any workstation…

Jahshaka v3.0 will let you do this, and much more."

Best part of it is, it's open source, and therefore free. As for open source programs, they rock. Just check out SourceForge. I'm going to be up learning this program all night perhaps.

Oh, and the Tigers won 12-5, powered by Pudge's grand slam in the first, the Tigers' third this season (they only had two all last season). Fun stuff. Also, Guillen almost had a grand slam in the eighth...it ended up just being a three-plater wall-bouncer-offer double. Ah well, can't have it all, can we? 12 runs on 10 hits...gotta love those Gary Sheffield walks.

Any News?

Not really. Just kinda waiting for school to be over, so that I can take my summer and work, write, read, and have fun.

Looking forward to next year, when I will be living by myself. In a single. No more creative confinement.

If you've been following sports at all, you'll know that Alex Rodriguez of the Yankees has hit 6 home runs in 7 games. I don't dislike the guy, except for when he's facing off against Detroit. If you don't think 6 in 7 is that big of a deal, let me lay it out for you. In 28 at-bats, he's hit 6 home runs. That's one home run every four at bats.

At this point he's on pace to hit 139 home runs, just short of doubling Barry Bonds' mucho controversial 73 home run single season record. Now, no one believes he's going to do anything close to that, (hey, he's A-Rod) but he might shatter Christ Shelton's historic AL home run start...which, I believe was 9 home runs in 13 games. A-Rod has six games to hit three. Can he do it?

Uh. Probably.

EDIT: This is where I'd realize I wrote Chris' name as Christ and go back and fix it, but it made me laugh so I'm leaving it.

He may get 9 in 13 games, but I doubt it. I don't think he'll get any in Oakland this weekend. Once he starts to face good pitching, those numbers will even out and he'll probably hit between 40 and 50 for the season.

Um. Remember Mo Pete?

Morris Peterson?

Maybe you remember a guy named Mateen Cleaves?

Well, they both went to the NBA the year following their NCAA championship, and not a lot happened with either of them. But I guess Mo Pete's still around...and doing crazy things. Here's one. Go MSU alumni!
